Tamara Meier's early equestrian background began with her first pony at the age of five, then went on to include riding and training Quarter Horses in various western riding disciplines. After college Tamara's focus shifted to English riding, then to dressage. Her dressage foundation comes from intensive training with Dietrich von Hopffgarten, with whom Olympic riders Steffen Peters and Gunter Seidel have trained. Dietrich himself was a student of Egon von Neindorff. Tamara has done further work with USEF judges and FEI trainers Sandy Howard and Jeff Moore, as well as with Mette Rosencrantz, former head instructor at Stromsholm, Sweden. She now rides with gigi Nutter when time permits.
Tamara performed across the U.S. and Canada with the U.S. Lipizzaner Stallions, and also managed the stabling, feeding, veterinarian and farrier care for the stallions while on the road. She has spent time training Spanish and Portuguese (PRE) stallions in Baja, Mexico, driving draft horses and carriages, and has ridden on the occasional cattle roundup in Washington. She has taught lessons and clinics in Washington, Oregon, Montana, and California prior to her recent move to Georgia.
As a student, Tamara has ridden in or audited clinics with many top professionals, including Bruce Davidson, Axel Steiner, Dietrich von Hopffgarten, Charles de Kunffy, Robert Dover, Michael Poulin, Hubert Rohrer, Karl Mikolka, Henrik Johannsen, Conrad Schumacher, Klaus Balkenhol, Kyra Kyrkland, Mary Wanless, George Williams, Linda Tellington-Jones, Jeff (J. Ashton) Moore, and Christine Stuckelburger. She has completed all of the USDF instructor certification training modules, under the supervision of Lilo Fore and Gerhard Politz. She is an avid student herself, and strongly believes that one can never stop learning! She continues to attend clinics to the extent her schedule allows.
As an instructor, Tamara's approach combines her own broad-based equestrian background with the well-documented teaching methodology of the British Horse Society and the training scale of the German National Equestrian Federation. Tamara is an enthusiastic, sympathetic coach who strongly emphasizes a correct foundation. Lessons are tailored to the individual student, based upon each rider's unique strengths and challenges. She strives to help each student achieve success with their own individual riding goals, and takes great delight in sharing in each student's progress, whether it's learning to canter for the first time or executing flowing lateral work with their equine partner.
Please give a call or shoot Tamara an e-mail if you'd like to schedule a visit, or need more information on riding lessons. We're glad to answer any questions, and we encourage new students to schedule a visit to watch a lesson and visit the facility.
